IRI’s Long Island Report Quoted in Op-ed
IRI’s report, New Immigrants Arriving to Long Island: Economic Projections, which was co-released with the Ellis Island Initiative, was quoted in an op-ed by Karen Rubin featured in The Island 360. The op-ed argues that more funding is needed to better serve newly arriving immigrants, specifically border agents, immigration judges and social workers, better housing and transportation to welcoming states and cities.
Rubin wrote:
In fact, a report by the Immigration Research Initiative and the Ellis Island Initiative, found that for every 1,000 migrants who arrive on Long Island, about $3 million is paid in local tax revenue – with that number increasing to $4 million within five years, Newsday reported.
